What is happening?

The UK government is proposing new rules that could:

• Restrict or completely ban social media use for under 16s
• Introduce social media ‘curfews’ for 16-17 year olds
• Limit features like messaging, livestreaming and content sharing

These changes would reshape how young people across the UK communicate, learn and socialise online.

However, young people seem to be missing from the government’s discussions.

Why we’re doing this

Voice exists to:

• Collect real experiences from young people
• Understand what social media means in daily life
• Highlight both risks and benefits of the ban
• Present youth evidence to MPs and policymakers

We believe that young people should be present in making decisions about young people.
